“A world first? We will try to be the world best in the world.”

At the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, from January 5th to 8th, there was a standout booth that many visitors visited, and it was EQBR. At the event, the company unveiled its next-generation blockchain development platform, EQ Hub.

EQ Hub is a pioneering product that aims to remove barriers to Web 3 technology adoption, EQBR officials said. In other words, it provides a solution with an easy configuration that allows companies to do business with Web 3 to distribute content easily and quickly without going through a complicated development process.
 

Many people want to create a blockchain and use it for business, but creating a platform costs hundreds of millions to billions of Korean won to develop. EQBR is focused on developing services to help developers build and operate new L1 blockchain networks using a straightforward user interface, a company representative said. This interface allows developers to configure and launch a new blockchain network in less than an hour. Some say it takes just 30 minutes.

It reminds me of the Web 1.0 era. At that time, a huge amount of capital and manpower was required to build and operate a website. At the time, the development cost paid by companies was skyrocketed. However, since then, tools that can quickly build a website without knowing a programming language have begun to appear, and many people have been able to create their own websites at a low cost. Recently, it has become possible for elementary school students to build a website.

In the Web 3.0 era, EQBR developed a fantastic technology relatively quickly to build a network ‘easy’ and ‘cheaply’.

EQBR Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Lee Hyun-ki said, "We are confident that our product's performance outperforms other blockchain mainnets in terms of scalability and stability. Using EQ Hub does not necessarily require developers to use the Equilibrium mainnet. People can use EQ Hub to own a mainnet and use gateway services to interoperate with other L1 blockchain networks such as Ethereum or BNB. We don't force developers to use a specific mainnet or a specific network.“

"The release of EQ Hub is significant in that it can speed up the transition from Web2 to Web3," said Jeong Jae-gun, head of EQBR's business division. Users looking to start a web 3 business can use the EQ Hub to build and launch new projects.

Founded in 2020, EQBR is the world's first commercially viable blockchain by creating Equilibrium, an innovative blockchain engine, the company said in a press release.

EQBR has also developed several types of dApps, such as Whisper Messenger (blockchain-based secure messenger), EQ Hub (no-code developer tool), and My Flex (NFT mining platform).

In response to the NJT reporter's question, "Is it the world's first and the world's best?" CTO Lee Hyun-ki said, "I'll have to do some market research on the world's first. However, we tried to become the best in the world and will continue to do so.” The following is Q&A with CEO Lee Hyun-ki.

NJT: Thank you, CTO Hyunki Lee.

EQBR: Thank you.

NJT: Looking at this solution, it seems anyone can do it, but can you tell me when it will be launched?

EQBR: Originally, it was a tool we used internally. In fact, we are presenting an open beta through this CES. So, after 3-4 months of open beta, we plan to release the official version in the middle or second half of this year.

NJT: Can you tell us your dreams and visions for this business?

EQBR: Whenever a new technology comes out like this, new markets open up, and a new generation arises each time. Since young and passionate friends are all running this company together, I hope we can lead the next generation and have a positive or positive influence on them. 

NJT: Is (this solution) a world first?

EQBR: Actually, I have to work hard with the mindset of becoming the best in the world.

NJT: Let me ask you again. Is it the best and the first in the world a model like this?

EQBR: The fact that this is the first time, we don't know precisely because there may be companies doing this work and that we don't know yet. We made this service after identifying cases such as needs. So, a little more formal service will come out, and now that the direction has come out, we can figure out the situation.

NJT: I've heard that people can do it at a low cost. Can you tell me a little bit about that?

EQBR: In our case, we plan to provide our solution as a subscription service, so we expect the initial cost to be significantly reduced.

NJT: Can you give us an approximate cost range?

EQBR: We are in the process of discussing it.

“세계 최초요? 세계 최고가 되려고 노력하겠습니다.”
 

지난 1월 5일부터 8일까지 미국 네바다주 라이스베이거스에서 열린 CES(Consumer Electronics Show)에서 방문자들이 많이 찾는 눈에 띄는 부스가 있었는데 그중 하나가 EQBR(이큐비알)이었다. 이 회사는 행사에서 차세대 블록체인 개발 플랫폼인 EQ Hub(이큐 허브)를 공개했다. 

EQ Hub는 웹 3 기술 채택의 장벽을 제거하려는 선구적인 제품이라고 EQBR 측은 밝혔다. 즉 웹 3로 비즈니스를 하려는 회사들이 복잡한 개발 과정을 거치지 않고도 쉽고 빠르게 콘텐츠를 배포할 수 있는 쉬운 구성으로 솔루션을 제공하는 것이다.

블록체인을 만들어 사업에 활용하려고 하는 사람들은 많지만, 플랫폼을 만들려면 수억에서 수십억 원의 개발 비용이 들어가게 되는데 대부분 사람은 블록체인 프로그래밍 언어를 잘 몰라 시작할 엄두도 내지 못하거나 중도에 하차하는 경우가 비일비재하다. EQBR은 개발자가 매우 간단한 사용자 인터페이스를 사용하여 새로운 L1 블록체인 네트워크를 구축하고 운영할 수 있도록 서비스를 개발하는 것에 집중돼 있다고 전했다. 이 인터페이스를 통해 개발자는 1시간 이내에 새로운 블록체인 네트워크를 구성하고 시작할 수 있다. 

이는 웹 1.0 시대를 생각나게 하는 대목이다. 당시 홈페이지를 구축하고 운영하는 데에는 엄청난 자본과 인력이 필요했다. 당시 개발자들이 내놓는 개발비는 소위 말해 ‘부르는 게 값’이었을 정도였다. 하지만 이후 프로그래밍 언어를 몰라도 쉽게 홈페이지를 구축하는 툴이 나오기 시작했고 많은 사람이 저렴한 비용으로 나만의 홈페이지를 만들 수 있게 되었다. 최근 들어서는 초등학생도 홈페이지 구축이 가능할 정도가 됐다. 

웹 3.0 시대에 ‘쉽게’ ‘저렴하게’ 네트워크를 구축하도록 EQBR이 놀라운 기술을 비교적 빨리 내놓은 것이다. 

EQBR 이현기 최고기술책임자(CTO)는 "확장성 및 안정성 측면에서 저희 제품의 성능이 다른 블록체인 메인넷을 능가한다고 확신하지만, EQ Hub를 사용한다고 해서 반드시 개발자가 이퀄리브리엄 메인넷을 사용해야 하는 것은 아니다. EQ Hub를 사용하여 메인넷을 소유하고 게이트웨이 서비스를 사용하여 이더리엄(Ethereum) 또는 BNB와 같은 다른 L1 블록체인 네트워크와 상호 운용할 수 있다. 우리는 개발자에게 특정 메인넷 또는 특정 네트워크를 사용하도록 강요하지 않는다"라고 설명했다.

EQBR의 정재건 사업본부장은 "EQ Hub의 출시는 웹 2.0에서 웹 3.0(웹3)으로의 전환을 앞당길 수 있다는 점에서 의미가 크다"며 "기존 온라인 서비스를 EQ Hub를 통해 최소한의 시간과 비용으로 웹 3.0 (웹3) 환경으로 이전할 수 있다"고 부연 설명했다.

웹3 비즈니스를 시작하려는 사용자는 EQ Hub를 사용하여 새로운 프로젝트 및 새로운 dApp을 구축하고 시작할 수 있다는 것이다.

2020년에 설립된 EQBR은 혁신적인 블록체인 엔진인 이퀄리브리엄(Equilibrium)을 만들어 세계 최초로 상업적으로 실행할 수 있도록 한 블록체인이라고 이 회사는 보도자료를 통해 밝혔다. 

EQBR은 이밖에 Whisper Messenger(블록체인 기반 보안 메신저), EQ Hub(노코드 개발자 도구), My Flex(NFT 채굴 플랫폼) 등 여러 종류의 디앱(dApp)을 개발했다.

이현기 CTO는 “세계 최초이고 세계 최고이냐”는 NJT 기자의 질문에 “세계 최초인 것은 시장 조사를 좀 해봐야겠다. 하지만 세계 최고가 되기 위해 노력을 했고 앞으로 할 것”이라고 답변했다. 다음은 이현기 대표와의 일문일답.

NJT: 이현기 대표님 감사합니다.

EQBR: 감사합니다.

NJT: 이 솔루션을 보니까 누구나 할 수 있는 것 같은데 언제 론칭이 되는지 좀 말씀해 주시겠어요.

EQBR: 원래 저희는 이걸 내부적으로 사용하는 툴이었습니다. 실제 저희가 이번 CES를 통해 오픈 베타를 선보이고 있습니다. 그래서 3~4개월 정도 저희가 오픈 베타를 진행하고 나서 정식 버전을 올해 중반기 또는 하반기쯤에 출시할 예정입니다.

NJT: 대표님의 어떤 꿈이라고 할까요. 이 사업을 통해서 어떤 꿈, 어떤 비전을 가졌는지 말씀해 주시겠어요.

EQBR: 사실은 이렇게 새로운 기술이 나오고 그럴 때마다 새로운 시장들이 열리고 그럴 때마다 새로운 세대들이 생기게 됩니다. 그랬을 때 젊고 열정 넘치는 친구들이 다 같이 회사를 운영하고 있기 때문에 저희가 다음 세대를 이끌어서 뭔가 긍정적인 영향이나 아니면 좋은 영향을 줄 수 있었으면 좋겠습니다.

NJT: (이 솔루션이) 세계 최초인가요?

EQBR: 사실 세계 최고가 되겠다는 마음으로 열심히 해봐야겠습니다.

NJT: 다시 질문드려봅니다. 세계 최고이고 세계 최초인가요, 이런 모델은. 

EQBR: 이게 최초라고 하는 게 사실은 아직 저희가 모르는 기업도 있을 수 있기 때문에 정확히는 알 수 없습니다. 니즈(필요) 같은 경우들이 파악돼서 사실 저희가 만들게 된 부분이어서. 그래서 조금 더 정식 서비스가 나오게 되고 지금 방향성이 나왔으니까 상황을 파악할 수 있겠습니다.

NJT: 제작 비용을 저비용으로도 할 수 있다는 말씀을 들었는데 그 이야기를 조금 해 주실 수 있으세요.

EQBR: 저희 같은 경우에는 구독형 서비스로서 저희의 솔루션을 제공할 계획이고 그렇기 때문에 초기 구축 비용이나 이런 부분들이 굉장히 감소하지 않을까 기대하고 있습니다.

NJT: 대략 레인지(비용 범위)를 말씀해 주실 수 있으세요.

EQBR: 그거는 아직 조정하고 계시고요

NJT: 네. 잘 알겠습니다.
