In his absence, the team has called up veteran outfielder Eddie Rosario from the minors, postponing any immediate plans to promote Korean infielder Hye Seoung Kim.
Manager Dave Roberts confirmed on Friday that Ohtani’s child has not yet been born, but he was officially placed on the paternity list, which allows players to take up to three days off for family reasons. “He’s going to be a father soon,” Roberts told reporters, according to Dodgers Nation.

Tommy "Hyun-Soo" Edman’s power surge continued on Friday night at Dodger Stadium, delivering a decisive three-run homer in the sixth inning to lift the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 3-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs. The home run — his sixth of the season — moved Edman into a tie for the National League lead.
The blast came just in time to secure the win for right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who delivered six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts, allowing only two hits and one walk on 103 pitches. The Japanese ace lowered his season ERA to 1.23 and improved to 2-1 with the win.
The Dodgers’ bullpen preserved the shutout with three perfect innings from Kirby Yates, Blake Treinen, and Tanner Scott. Yates and Treinen each retired the side in order, and Scott needed just 16 pitches to lock down the save.
Shohei Ohtani was struggled at the plate, going hitless in four at-bats with two strikeouts. His season average dipped to .293, and his OPS fell to .961.

With all three National League West frontrunners claiming victories on Wednesday, the division’s top trio now stands atop Major League Baseball overall. Such an alignment — the NL West holding the top three league-wide records — is a rare snapshot of dominance in early April.
The Los Angeles Dodgers, after dropping the first two games of their series in Washington, salvaged the finale with a narrow 6-5 win. Despite a shaky outing from starter Landon Knack, who allowed five runs on four hits in just 2⅓ innings, the Dodgers bullpen held firm to avoid a sweep.
Shohei Ohtani once again showcased his well-rounded skill set. The two-way star went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored, and a stolen base, lifting his season batting average to .315 and his OPS to 1.023. Ohtani singled in the first and seventh innings and reached base in the second via a walk, setting the table for a pivotal comeback.
The deciding blow came in the seventh inning. Following Ohtani’s single and a walk by Tommy Edman, Teoscar Hernández delivered a go-ahead opposite-field RBI single, giving the Dodgers a 6-5 lead they would not relinquish. Their 8-2 loss to the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night marked a troubling turn in their trajectory, dropping them to 9-4 on the season and sealing their first home series defeat against Washington since 2014.
The loss underscored the Dodgers’ recent unraveling on the mound. Rookie left-hander Justin Wrobleski, pressed into a starting role following Blake Snell’s shoulder injury, was tagged for eight runs over five innings, including two home runs and five RBIs surrendered to Nationals outfielder James Wood.

Shohei Ohtani showed signs of emerging from an early-season slump Monday night with a home run, a triple, and a walk, but his performance was not enough to prevent the Los Angeles Dodgers from falling to the Washington Nationals, 6-4.
The loss, at Nationals Park, marked the Dodgers’ third defeat of the season, dropping them to 9-3. The team had just wrapped up a three-game series in Philadelphia before opening their road set in Washington.
Batting leadoff, Ohtani went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. In the third inning, with the Dodgers trailing 2-0, he crushed a two-run homer to right to tie the game. He added a triple in the fifth but was left stranded.
Dustin May, who started for Los Angeles, delivered a quality start — allowing just one earned run over six innings — but the bullpen was unable to hold the lead. May has endured a series of medical setbacks, including two elbow surgeries and an emergency procedure last year after a food-related choking incident caused serious esophageal damage. Despite these challenges, he returned to the mound earlier this season and has looked strong.
Washington reclaimed the lead shortly after Ohtani’s homer with a run-scoring single from Nathaniel Lowe. Both of the Dodgers’ losses this season have come at the hands of the Phillies.
In Philadelphia, Nick Castellanos broke open the game in the third inning with a grand slam off reliever Alex Vesia on the first pitch he faced, marking his eighth career grand slam. Teoscar Hernández kept the Dodgers in contention with a two-run homer in the first and a solo shot off the right-field foul pole in the fourth, marking his 19th career multi-homer game. In the seventh, the Dodgers briefly took the lead 7-6, with an RBI double by Mookie Betts, a sacrifice fly by Hernández, and a run-scoring double from Will Smith.
But the Phillies responded in the bottom of the inning. Bryson Stott tied the game with an RBI single, and Edmundo Sosa beat out a potential inning-ending double play, allowing the go-ahead run to score.

Ohtani Tosses Bullpen, Six-Man Rotation Looms
Before Saturday’s game, Shohei Ohtani threw 26 pitches in a bullpen session—his second since resuming mound activity following right elbow surgery on Sept. 19, 2023. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts described the session, which included Ohtani’s signature splitter, as “very positive.”

LOS ANGELES — It might sound like something out of a comic book, but in Los Angeles, it's very real. The Dodgers are a perfect 7–0 to start the 2025 season, their best since moving west in 1958. But beyond the immaculate record and a deep, star-studded roster, Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium belonged to a pitcher who simply made it back to the mound.
Right-hander Dustin May, pitching in his first Major League game in 685 days, delivered five impressive innings in a 3–1 win over the Atlanta Braves. He allowed just one unearned run on one hit, striking out six and walking three. For May, who’s endured not one but two elbow surgeries and a life-threatening throat injury in the past few years, simply taking the mound again was a triumph.
“Eight months ago, I didn’t even know if I’d ever throw another pitch,” May said, visibly emotional. “Just being out there meant the world to me.”
May struck out the side in the first inning, a powerful statement to begin a night that concluded with his walk off the mound to a standing ovation. Though he didn’t earn the win, his teammates finished the job behind a two-run home run from Mookie Betts in the sixth inning — off none other than reigning NL Cy Young winner Chris Sale.
But while May owned the night, the Dodgers’ steady spark all season long has been their leadoff man — Shohei Ohtani.
Ohtani, still awaiting his first true offensive explosion of the year, has nevertheless scored in all seven games. He went 1-for-4 on the night with a run scored, keeping his batting average at .280 and bringing his league-leading run total to 10. For a player expected to return to the mound later this season, the balance between productivity and anticipation has made each Ohtani appearance must-watch.
The Dodgers, now 7–0, joined the 1933 Yankees as the only defending champions in Major League history to begin a season with seven straight wins, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

LOS ANGELES — March 31, 2025 The Los Angeles Dodgers continued their torrid start to the 2025 season, improving to 6–0 after a commanding win over the Atlanta Braves on Monday. Starter Tyler Glasnow dazzled in his season debut, while Shohei Ohtani continued to get on base despite a hitless streak.
Glasnow, making his first start since Aug. 11 of last year, allowed just two hits over five shutout innings, striking out eight. The right-hander carried a no-hitter into the fifth and looked every bit the ace the Dodgers hoped he’d be after returning from the injury that ended his 2024 campaign prematurely. He did not pitch during the team’s postseason run to the World Series.
With Monday’s win, the Dodgers joined elite company: only the 1985 Tigers (6–0) and the 1933 Yankees (7–0) have had better or equal starts in the modern era. It's also L.A.'s best opening stretch since 1981, when they also started 6–0.
Ohtani, batting leadoff, went hitless for the second consecutive game but drew two walks, scored a run, and stole a base—his second of the season. He has now scored in all six games this year, maintaining an impressive .464 on-base percentage. Through six games, the two-way superstar is batting .286 with two home runs, two stolen bases, nine runs scored, two RBIs, and seven walks.
Teoscar Hernández and Kiké Hernández both homered to support Glasnow, as the Dodgers' offense continued to show depth and power.
The team’s rotation, already formidable with Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Glasnow, Blake Snell, and Roki Sasaki, looms even larger with the expected midseason addition of Ohtani as a pitcher, potentially forming one of the most intimidating rotations in recent memory.
Braves slugger Marcell Ozuna, who battled Ohtani for league lead in batting and RBIs last season, struggled at the plate, going 0-for-3 with a walk. His average fell to .167.
Meanwhile, Korean infielder Kim Hye-seong was given a rest day. His Triple-A club, the Oklahoma City Comets, had the day off.

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers, fresh off a World Series title, have opened their 2025 campaign with five straight victories, becoming only the fourth reigning champion in MLB history to start the following season 5-0. Their 7-3 win over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday at Chavez Ravine secured the milestone, matching elite company that includes the 1985 Tigers (6-0), the 1934 Giants (5-0), and the 1933 Yankees (7-0). It also marks the Dodgers’ best start since 1981, when they opened 6-0 and went on to win the championship.
The game highlighted both the strengths and growing pains within the Dodgers’ roster. Japanese rookie Roki Sasaki, once again, failed to settle into a rhythm in his second MLB start. After a rocky debut last week (3 IP, 5 BB, 1 ER), Sasaki lasted just 1⅔ innings Saturday, surrendering four walks, three hits, and two earned runs.
