보수 진영 인사 13명이 27일 ‘진짜 보수 민주보수 공동선언’을 통해 이재명 더불어민주당 대선 후보 지지를 공식 선언하며 정권교체에 동참할 것을 밝혔다. 이들은 12·3 계엄 사태를 “헌법 질서를 뒤흔든 중대한 반헌정 사건”으로 규정하고, 이를 계기로 보수의 정체성과 책임을 재정립할 필요가 있다고 강조했다.

권오을, 김상욱, 김신양, 김용남, 김현섭, 윤병호, 이석연, 이인기, 이종호, 조용수, 최연숙, 허은아 등 보수 성향의 전직 관료와 정치인들은 공동 성명을 통해 “진보와 보수는 국민의 삶을 함께 설계하는 파트너”라며, 갈등과 대립의 정치에서 벗어난 통합 정치를 제안했다.

이들은 이재명 후보의 ‘민생실용노선’과 ‘중도보수 강화론’에 주목하며, 이를 통해 대한민국이 위기에서 벗어나 헌법과 민생을 지켜낼 수 있다고 평가했다. 김대중 전 대통령과 김종필, 박태준 전 총리가 추진했던 ‘DJP연합’을 언급하며, 이번 선언이 과거 통합정치의 현대적 계승임을 내세웠다.

선언 참여자들은 “진짜 보수는 헌법을 수호하고 민생을 책임지는 것”이라며, 단순히 과거 보수의 반복이 아닌 ‘21세기형 보수의 새로운 실험’임을 강조했다. 또한 “이재명 후보와 민주당이 추진하는 ‘통합 르네상스’가 실현된다면, 그 안에서 민주적이고 개혁적인 보수의 길을 열어가겠다”고 밝혔다.

이번 선언은 단순한 지지 표명이 아닌 보수 정치의 방향성 전환을 위한 정치적 결단으로 평가되고 있다. 보수와 진보를 대립이 아닌 상호 보완적 존재로 재정의하고, 이를 바탕으로 헌법 수호와 민생 회복을 위한 공동의 여정을 시작하겠다는 의미를 담고 있다.

On May 27, thirteen prominent conservative figures issued a joint statement endorsing Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, as part of a broader initiative titled the “True Conservative Declaration.” The group described the December 3 martial law incident as a severe constitutional crisis and asserted their commitment to restoring democratic governance and economic stability through a pragmatic alliance.

Among the signatories were former government officials and political leaders such as Kwon O-eul, Kim Sang-wook, Kim Shin-yang, Kim Yong-nam, Kim Hyun-seop, Yoon Byung-ho, Lee Seok-yeon, Lee In-ki, Lee Jong-ho, Cho Yong-soo, Choi Yeon-sook, and Heo Eun-ah. Their joint declaration emphasized the need to transcend ideological divisions and adopt a governance model based on constitutional principles and public welfare.

The leaders cited inspiration from past political coalitions like the DJP alliance formed by former President Kim Dae-jung with Kim Jong-pil and Park Tae-joon, noting the urgent need for similar unity in today’s multifaceted crisis. They commended Lee Jae-myung’s centrist economic pragmatism and openness to conservative collaboration as a realistic pathway to national recovery.

Rejecting the notion of returning to outdated conservatism, the group declared this move as a 21st-century experiment in inclusive governance, where both progressive and conservative forces can act as co-architects of national policy rather than adversaries.

They also expressed confidence that the “Renaissance of Unity” promised by Lee and the Democratic Party could provide a political framework in which reform-minded conservatives could actively participate.
