‘오징어 게임’의 스타 이정재가 12일(미국기준) 오후에 열린 에미상 시상식에서 외국어로 연기한 배우로는 최초로 드라마 시리즈 남우주연상을 수상했다. 이는 에미상 시상식 역사상 최초의 일이다.
베테랑 배우 이정재는 또한 Riz Ahmed, Archie Panjabi, Darren Criss, Shohreh에 이어 에미상을 수상한 다섯 번째 아시아계 배우로 기록됐다.
오징어 게임은 수상 후보로 이름을 올린 7개 부문 중 4개 부문에서 에미상을 수상했는데 이 비영어권 드라마 시리즈로는 처음 있는 일이다.
이날 시상식은 캘리포니아 로스앤젤레스 시내 마이크로소프트 극장에서 열렸다. TV 최고의 작품을 시상하는 에미상 시상식은 월요일 밤에 열리면서 전통을 깼다.
